Thousands will gather to fast and pray daring to believe America could turn back to God
DETROIT, Nov. 9, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ — TheCall solemn assemblies have aired exclusively on GOD TV from cities across the USA for several years. Now, for the first time, the global network will cover TheCall LIVE for 24 hours, and this time from Ford Field stadium in Detroit, Michigan.
The full 24-hour event will be available to Internet viewers at www.god.tv/liveevents from 6pm (EST) this Friday, November 11 through 6pm on Saturday 12. TheCall Detroit will also feature extensively on the GOD Channel this weekend, from 8:30pm (EST) on Friday, until 7am the following morning. It will resume from 10am through 6pm on Saturday 12 and a three-hour highlights program will be broadcast on Sunday 13 at 2pm.
Hosted by Lou Engle with many other influential prayer leaders, including those from churches in ‘Motor City,’ TheCall, Detroit, will focus on restoring hope in the face of racial tension, economic collapse and moral degradation. Tens of thousands of young people are expected to gather at the 70,000-seat stadium to fast and pray for America, repent and seek God’s will for the nation.
The focus of TheCall is on Joel 2:15, which says: “Blow the trumpet in Zion! Consecrate a fast! Call a sacred assembly.” TheCall Detroit therefore, is not a time of celebration, but a time of repentance, worship and intercession and the many musicians and speakers participating in the gathering are deliberately not being publicized as this meeting is not about personalities, but all about earnestly seeking God.
“Believers from all across America will gather to fast, pray and cry out to God in this city that has become a microcosm of our national crisis – economic collapse, racial tension, and the shedding of innocent blood of our children in the streets and of our unborn,” said Lou Engle, who is the founder of TheCall. “God has chosen the place, where they say there is no hope, to be a staging ground for a great communal healing and His house of prayer for all nations. We are calling the nation to a 24-hour solemn assembly, daring to believe that Detroit’s desperation can produce prayer that can change a nation.”
TheCall solemn assemblies are divinely initiated, multi-racial, multi-generational, and cross-denominational gatherings for corporate prayer and fasting. Participating Christian leaders believe that America is in desperate need of the mercy of God and spiritual awakening. TheCall is committed to mobilizing people from all across the nation to gather together to petition God for His undeserved mercy upon the USA.
“It is only through prayer and fasting that we will see revival come to America and the nations,” said GOD TV’s Co-founder and Director of Television, Wendy Alec. “This weekend is a time for people everywhere to come together through the power of global television to consecrate themselves and cry out to the Lord to see spiritual breakthrough come to the USA as well as into their own lives and communities.”
The GOD Channel can be viewed across the USA on channel 365 of DIRECTV, on cable stations in some cities and via the Internet at www.god.tv. For more information about TheCall visit: www.thecall.com.
Local Nonprofits Will Raise Millions in Just 24 Hours
WASHINGTON, DC, November 7, 2011 – Starting at midnight on Wednesday, November 9, local residents will donate online to help raise millions of dollars for local nonprofits as part of the first annual Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington (www.give2max.org). Give to the Max Day is a massive one-day regional online fundraiser that will unite local Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC communities to support nonprofits serving the area.
As part of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington, nonprofits large and small can earn their share of $125,000 in cash awards, including up to $25,000 for nonprofits with the most individual donors and the most money donated. The individuals who bring the most donors on behalf of their cause can add an extra $10,000 to their donation.
To keep it interesting for all participants, Give to the Max Day will also offer “Golden Ticket” awards of $1,000 for the nonprofits receiving the most individual donations within each hour beginning at 2 PM and ending at midnight. There are also fun awards for 12th place and 44th place (in honor of the year 2012 and our 44th president). Businesses can participate too by offering their favorite nonprofits matching grants to help them rally their supporters.
“On November 9, we want people to go to give2max.org and support their favorite local nonprofits by donating, fundraising and spreading the word,” said Lesley Mansford, CEO of Razoo.com, an online fundraising platform, which partnered with the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and the United Way of the National Capital Area to create Give to the Max Day. “In Minnesota, Razoo has held two separate Give to the Max days and helped 4,000 nonprofits raise a total of $24 million! Those kinds of funds are desperately needed in this region”
“The region’s culture of giving and helping others is strong, but declines in corporate and government support are taking their toll at a time when nonprofits are facing overwhelming demand for their services,” said Terri Freeman, President, Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. “Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington provides area residents the chance to unite in support of all the great nonprofit organizations that work tirelessly to improve our community.”
“This event will open the doors to new source of funding for our more than 700 member nonprofits we serve throughout the region,” said Bill Hanbury, President and CEO, United Way of the National Capital Area. “By introducing them to a new digital age platform where more and more consumers are focusing their interests and philanthropy, we will expand the impact of our workplace giving programs.”
“We have long been an enthusiastic champion of efforts that democratize philanthropy through the collective power of donations large and small,” said Jean Case, CEO of the Case Foundation. “Nonprofits have to develop creative approaches to reach new donors and advocates, particularly in tough economic times. We’re excited about Give to the Max Day’s potential to do just that in our community and to serve as a model for the nation to follow.”
Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington encompasses Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, The City of Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Charles County and of course, Washington, DC. All registered United States 501(c)(3) organizations that have been vetted by the IRS are eligible to participate in the event. This inaugural one day giving event is being held in conjunction with Digital Capital Week, which is a series of Web 2.0 events from Nov. 4-11.
Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington was created by online fundraiser Razoo, and organized and supported by The Community Foundation for the National Capital Region and United Way of the National Capital Area. The other six members of the “Eight Neighbors” group—an alliance of local leading nonprofit and civic organizations – have also come together to support this event: Center for Nonprofit Advancement, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Leadership Greater Washington, Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington, and the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers. The Case Foundation is the Social Impact Partner of Give to the Max Day: Greater Washington. These groups have united to offer any local 501(c)(3) the opportunity to earn hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash awards.

Shaun & Jennifer Winn just received this precious letter from some of their DEAR friends. They were moved to share this with all of you in hopes that you too would be moved to read, share & even consider making a donation toward The Hoketts’ continued work in Africa.
———————————————————————–
Dear Special Friends,
Hello from Texas today on Monday, August 8. I have some very sad news to share with you, and I am brokenhearted.
My husband of nearly 54 years has gone to be with the Lord, and was promoted to heaven, to be with Jesus forever, on Saturday, Aug. 6, just two days ago. He was getting better, so eager to get back to Africa.
However, he had a surgery on Thursday of last week, and a second surgery on Friday. The last one was evidently too much for him, and he passed away some hours later in the early morning of the next day.
Here is a part of the obituary that will be in the local newspaper, The Houston Chronicle, on Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a live streaming of the memorial service on Friday, August 12, at 10:00 A.M. (Texas time), which is presently five hours behind GMT. It can be accessed at http://www.faithpasadena.org.
Rev. Arthur E. Hokett, Jr., age 73, entered into heaven on Saturday, August 6, in Pasadena, Texas, He is survived by his wife, Doris, one beloved son, Jeff, his wife, Sandra, and their three young sons, Alex, Spencer, and Richard, of Virginia.
As a young teenager, Arthur felt called by God to be a missionary in Africa, and he looked forward to missions service after graduating from Pasadena High School in 1956. He married Doris Hinkle on Sept. 20, 1957, and they both graduated from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas, in 1961. Later, they both received honorary Doctor of Theology degrees in 1992 from Levites Theological Seminary in Lagos, Nigeria.
After pastoring a church in Yoakum, Texas, for four and a half years, Arthur and Doris were appointed as missionaries to Ghana, West Africa, in 1966. For the next 45 years, they served together in Africa, living first in Ghana, and then in Lagos, Nigeria. They have ministered under trees in tiny villages, in churches of all sizes in towns and cities, also in stadiums and mega churches across Africa.
Arthur helped to build 46 churches in northern Ghana, and he recently said he desired to help finish at least 50 churches there. He worked tirelessly in Ghana for many years, serving as National Youth Coordinator, as well as ministering all over the country for many years.
After moving to Nigeria in 1988, he ministered throughout Nigeria, also traveling with Doris as missionary evangelists all over Africa, in Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Niger, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, and South Africa.
Outside of Africa, they also ministered in England, Belgium, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Mexico, El Salvador, and Haiti. Every two years, they traveled to India, preaching there 13 different times. Arthur and Doris wrote 13 books together, publishing most of them in Nigeria. Several have been translated into other languages in various countries. Countless ministers and friends around the world have loved Arthur, and each has been blessed by his ministry.
The family will receive friends at Niday Funeral Home, 12440 Beamer, in southeast Houston, on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 5 to 8 P.M. A service will be held at Faith Assembly of God, 3940 Vista, in Pasadena, at 10 A.M. on Friday, Aug. 12. The graveside service and burial will be at 4 P.M. the same day at Brookside Cemetery, Hwy. 59 North (Lauder Exit).
Tax-deductible donations in Arthur’s memory may be made to Hokett International Ministries (HIM), P.O. Box 8188, Pasadena, TX 77508-8188, to help build four more churches in northern Ghana. Rev. Hokett dreamed of having a part in building 50 churches there, and you can help to make the dream come true!
Love,
Doris Hokett

The Winn Group is happy to introduce you to our friend and client, Mary Bielski, the founder of ALL4HIM Ministries. Over the last eight years, Mary has traveled the US sharing the awesome power of God to Catholic teens. Through humorous skits and captivating presentations, Mary seeks to engage, ignite, and inflame hearts to a deeper relationship with Christ and a passionate life given totally to the Lord.
Mary was raised in a loving home where the seeds of faith were impressed into her life at a young age. But as she reached her high school years, her heart began to struggle with questions of faith and God’s role in her life. After spending some time in her college years with one foot on either side of the fence, Mary encountered the intimate love of Christ and responded to God’s call to live her life wholly for Him.
Adding a second major in Theology, Mary continued her studies and graduated from Marquette University living her passion through youth ministry in her home parish. In 2009, Mary felt God’s call and took a leap of faith, leaving her job and immersing herself full-time in ALL4HIM Ministries. She now lives in South Bend, IN and travels across the country speaking on topics including Conversion, Prayer, the Mass, Holy Spirit, Sacraments and Chastity.

My dad is a big fan of Dale Carnegie’s book How to Win Friends and Influence People, and as a kid, it seemed like he was always grooming us to be good employees/volunteers and overall a great person. Countless dinners were spent imparting wisdom to me and my twin sister & my brother, and I thought I’d share some of it with you. Dad always said…
Don’t be just another average employee who clocks in a few minutes late and clocks out a few minutes early, who just “does their job” for the most part because Anybody can do that!
Be EXTRAORDINARY. Brainstorm; provide vision and ideas; and celebrate the growth and success of your organization. If you see a need, fill it (gracefully of course). When you go to your boss with a problem, bring a solution, too, one with some thought and reliable research behind it.
Don’t lie – EVER!! Always be honest but measured. Our society has lost the art of holding ourselves accountable to always being honest while maintaining professional decorum. If you are juggling too much, and you are concerned and stressed about dropping everything, don’t say, “No sweat; I got it.” Ask for help prioritizing the jobs or projects. Then you have their blessing to rework your timing. On the other hand, no one needs to know the gross details of your illness, so just say it was difficult… and that you are glad to be back. Don’t be crass. It’s unnecessary, and it doesn’t belong in the workplace.
And finally, be a blessing and a joy to work with by observing those you work for and learning how to truly please them. If you can bring light to their day rather than being another problem to deal with, you will truly be invaluable and irreplaceable.

We’ve all seen those insurance commercials where one kind act passes from one person to the next. You know the ones – a man helps a woman get her baby and stroller onto a bus, then the woman picks up and returns someone’s wallet when they drop it, and on and on. It makes us wonder, can kindness really be spread like a virus?
In 2008, one act of kindness turned viral when Carolee Hazard paid for the groceries of a stranger. Jenni Ware was that stranger, stranded at the grocery checkout having lost her wallet. Jenni later sent Carolee a check to repay her for the $207 bill but rounded it up to $300 as a thank you, suggesting Carolee use the extra $93 for a massage or something nice for herself. Carolee posted the story on Facebook, asking her friends what they would do with the extra money. “Give it to charity!” they replied.
Carolee chose to match Jenni’s gift and donate the $186 to a local food bank, since the original event had occurred in a grocery store. Inspired by the story, friends also began donating $93 of their own, sharing the story with their Facebook friends, who shared it with their friends, and since that time nearly $120,000 has been donated to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley! And thus was born The 93 Dollar Club.
Kindness, particularly unselfishly motivated kindness, is a powerful thing. Before that one event at the grocery store, all those people could have been giving to the food bank, but they didn’t. Why not? Was it because they were unkind or uncaring? Obviously not, or they never would have given. It was simply because they were uninspired. One woman’s kind act reminded them of the kindness they were capable of and inspired them to act.
We know that your organization is doing good work motivated by kindness and love, so get out there and inspire others, and let us help you. As the 93 Dollar Club proves, people want to spread kindness, they just need you to show them where it’s needed.
So, tell your story, share your numbers, and be the inspiration you are!

You know we like to highlight good work, and this movie definitely qualifies. Bethany Hamilton was a teen surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack, but her faith gave her the courage to turn what could have been a disaster into a gift for others. With a star-studded cast and a true story that will encourage and move you, Soul Surfer is a film you can’t miss.
Shaun Winn was invited to the preview screening and highly recommends it. See what he had to say:
“Bethany Hamilton’s story is a true inspiration, and it’s exciting to see A-List actors and musicians come together for a story like hers! I had the privilege of attending a screening of the movie with my wife, and can’t wait to take my daughter on April 8th. Grab your family, your friends, your friends’ family, and make a run (or surf) to the movie theater this weekend!!”

God goes to great lengths to up-end our misconceptions of mercy
by Guest Blogger – Melissa Riddle Chalos
I’m a ‘glass half empty’ kind of girl. ‘Skeptic’ is written on the hard-drive of my psyche, with a melancholy tune hardwired into my DNA. I’d like to say I wish for a more enthusiastic disposition, but I never really have.
That said, my life has been a series of signs and miracles, jarring little revelations from God, mud for my blurry-blue eyes, always asking, always answering: ‘See the beauty in this life I’ve given you? Look. Right. Here.’
The most recent, glorious speck of mud looked just like this:
Once a month, I deliver meals on wheels to elderly people in one of Nashville’s lower income housing projects. One of my deliveries is to Mr. Warren* an older gentleman, much like I imagine my father would be if he were still on the planet: an alcoholic Vietnam vet, a chain smoking, always-shirtless widower who, before he lost his wife, buried his only son.
This time last year, the only joy in life he had was in the form of a feisty, yellow cockatiel named, ‘Lady.’ She sat on his shoulder and ‘talked’ to him, when he had no one else. But the bird died. And with the bird, what was left of Mr. Warren’s hope.
Now granted, I learned all of this over the past four years, in five-minute increments at Mr. Warren’s front door. But you can know a lot in five minutes, if you have an ounce of curiosity.
The last time I spoke with the old man was in November. He was barely there, but I gave him his meal, and said, ‘You know, Mr. Warren, I really think it’s time for you to consider getting another bird.’ He schluffed off my suggestion with a ‘Nah, it’s no good.’
But then last Wednesday, God washed the mud off my eyes.
Two months after our last encounter, I returned to deliver Mr. Warren’s meal, and as I was heading up the sidewalk, he opened the door wide and said, “Come meet my ‘Pretty Girl,’” his eyes all lit up. “I got her on the 4th! Isn’t she a beauty?!”
She certainly was. In fact, you could spend your entire life counting Puffins and Quetzals and African Crowned Cranes and never see a more beautiful bird than Mr. Warren’s ‘Pretty Girl.’ Because she softened his stone heart and shined life back into his eyes.
And once again, God has revealed himself in the humblest of circumstances, shattering our misconceptions of mercy, bolstering our understanding of grace.
Once again, hope takes flight on the tiniest of wings.
