When you need to make a good impression, preparedness is next to godliness. That’s why we were happy to come across this great article by 4imprint Nonprofit News about talking to donors.
Most potential donors are going to have questions of some kind, but as the article points out some questions are more difficult to answer than others. Six difficult questions you’ll want to be prepared for are:
- Why should I give to your nonprofit organization?
- What makes your nonprofit organization so different?
- How are your staff and/or programs an authority on the cause?
- How does your organization measure the success of its programs?
- How is my donation going to be used?
- Why is overhead so high?
With all of your answers you’ll want to keep in mind that honesty and transparency are key factors in establishing a lasting partnership with your donors, so don’t be afraid to lay it all out. And as always, remember that while the numbers are important, the best reason to help your organization is because of the impact you are having in people’s lives, so don’t forget the stories.
If you can’t accurately answer all of these questions, don’t worry. The Winn Group can help you with defining what sets you apart, implementing metrics for measuring success, or even help develop materials to share with your donors. Give us a call today!
